Dear Friends

Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Worry and Security - 4

Over the past weeks we have reflected on Jesus teaching on worry and security and realized where our main worries are and where we can find our security. Three things we worry most are health, wealth and success in our endeavors. This week we shall look at the desire for success in our endeavors.

God has given us a physical body, a mind and a spirit. A healthy body, an alert mind and a loving and compassionate spirit functioning harmoniously make us a unique creature able to adapt to the environment we are in. It is normal to desire to be successful and this should not be at the expense of ignoring the commands of God. God has given us life and talents to be developed and used not only for ourselves but also for the needs of others. We need to be aware that everything we have comes from God. The very life we have is given by God and He knows everything about us.

We saw in our reflection in Advent, that God in His love for us sent His one and only Son Jesus Christ to redeem us. We shall see this more clearly in the Lent season.

So friends as we strive in our work and desire to be successful, we can be reminded to do what God asked Joshua to do.

"Be strong and courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left that you may be successful wherever you go. Do not let the Book of the Law depart from your mouth; mediate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful." ( Jos.1:7 – 8 )

Jesus told His disciples, "No servant can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money."

In the Matt. 19: 16-29. we read of the rich young man who desired to have eternal life, but chose his riches. Success in our endeavors brings wealth which is entrusted to us for our use and for the use of others in need. We are only stewards of what God has blessed us with. We have only gained them

as a result of God blessing our work with success. We need to be prudent and careful in the way we live.

The danger is when being successful in our endeavors becomes the only basis for our lives on the earth and we fail to see that what we have achieved by our efforts is because of what the Lord has endowed to us. We need to be aware that God is in control and nothing ever happens without His knowledge. Let us find comfort and reassurance in knowing, God is in control and that He provides us our daily needs as we pray, give us this day our daily bread.

.

The following questions may help you in your reflection.

1. Is God relevant in my life?

2. How has God blessed me?

This is sent out by email once a week. If you have just come across this for the

first time, and would like to receive it, please send email. Your comments and

views on this are most welcome.

With regards,

Fred.
