Dear Friends
Greetings in the
name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Jesus the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of
the world
The Lent season of the Church calendar starts on
Ash Wednesday 1st. March 2006 and ends with Easter on 16th.
April 2006. During this period the church normally focuses on the
suffering, death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. During
this period we shall look on the life of Jesus Christ and how he has
affected our life.
St John begins his gospel of Jesus Christ with
the words:
In the beginning
was the Word and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was
with God in the beginning. Through Him all things were made; without
Him nothing was made, that has been made. (Jn. 1:1-3)
He was in the world and though the world was made
through Him, the world did not recognize Him. He came to that which
was His own, but His own did not receive Him. Yet to all who
received Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the
right to become children of God – children born not of natural
descent, nor of human decision or husband’s will, but of God. The
Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. We have seen His
glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father full
of grace and truth. (Jn.1:10-14)
As we begin the Lent Season, read the above
portion of the scripture a few times to understand what John was
telling his hearers in his day and is saying us today.
When the time was
right God sent his angel Gabriel to Mary to inform her that she
would bear a son and she was to call him Jesus. God becoming a human
being to pay the price for our sins, and to give us the right to
become children of God. When John the Baptist saw Jesus coming
towards him, he said, "Look, the Lamb of God that takes away the sin
of the world." Jesus by His suffering, death and resurrection has
given us the privilege of being the children of God. Let us ponder
and reflect over the words of John and see what a wonderful gift God
has given us. The following questions could help you in your
reflection.
1. I am a child of God through
faith in Jesus Christ. How does this affect me?
2. Does my lifestyle show that I
am a child of God?
3. Do my friends see that I am a
child of God?
