A Weekly Sharing of Reflection on the Word of God
3rd. Sunday after
Epiphany: 22nd January 2006 email: fvamw@tm.net.my
Dear Friends
Greetings in the name of our
Lord Jesus Christ.
Worry and Security
Jesus says ,
Therefore I tell
you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or
about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than
food and the body more important than clothes? Look at the birds
of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and
yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more
valuable than they? Who of you by worrying can add single hour to
his life?
And why do you worry about
clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not
labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in his splendor
was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass
of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire,
will he not much more clothe you , O you of little faith? So
do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’
or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and
your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first
his kingdom and his righteousness, all these things will be given to you
as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will
worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
(Matt. 6:25 -34)
Over last few weeks we
reflected on the making and reviewing New Year Resolutions followed by
being focused on Jesus as we develop our talents and the building of a
sure foundation of faith in him as our rock. This week we reflect on
Jesus teaching on worry and security. Read the words of Jesus above a
few times to grasp the meaning.
We have seen that God in his
love and mercy has given us Jesus Christ his one and only Son. He is
always with us, teaching us how to live a life of faith in him. God has
given us life; he will provide us all our needs. He has never promised
to provide our selfish wants. From our experience, we know that worrying
does not solve anything, yet we often worry and fear that the worst
would happen to us. It is at this time that our faith and trust in
God enables us to be aware that God is in control, and this
understanding will give us the courage and the strength to endure.
Then our fears turn to trust in God and we cast all our cares on
him who cares for us.
Use the following questions for
your reflection.
1. How does Jesus influence my
life?
2. Can I see God at work in his creation?
3. What is the difference between me as a
Christian and others?
This is sent out by email once a week. If you have
just come across this for the first time, and would like to receive it,
please send email.
With regards,
Fred.
