Dear Friends
Greetings in the name of
our Lord Jesus Christ.
Jesus says, Trust God, trust also in me.
During Lent, we focus on the life of Jesus Christ
and how He has affected our life.
Jesus says,
"Do not let your hearts
be troubled. Trust in God, trust also in me. In my Father’s
house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am
going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a
place or you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you
also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am
going." Thomas said to him, "Lord, we don’t know where you are
going, so how can we know the way?"
Jesus answered; "I am
the way and the truth and life. No-one comes to the Father except
through me. If you really knew me, you would know my Father
as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him. (John
14:1-7)
Read the above words of Jesus a few times to
understand what Jesus is telling his disciples. This portion of the
scripture is after John records Jesus washing the feet of the
disciples and predicting Peter’s denial of knowing Jesus. Jesus
assures them not to let their hearts be troubled and urges them to
continue to trust in God and to trust in Him. He also affirms that
He is the way, the truth and the life, as well as the only way to
God.
Is there any human being who is not worried and
troubled by the cares of this life? Is there any one who is not
concerned of what happens to him or her after death? All of us are;
no doubt about it. More so when one our loved ones have returned
home to the Lord.
What a great assurance we have that Jesus knows
us well, He came to show and teach us the way to God and to die
on our behalf to reconcile us with God. He has prepared a place for
us in His Father’s house and will be coming back to take us back to
be with him, He has promised to be with us always, that though we
die we shall live with Him in eternity. What a great relief to
know and to believe in this.
Jesus told Thomas, "If you really knew me, you
would know my Father as well. From now on you know Him and have seen
Him." At other times, Jesus had told His disciples that He and
the Father are one.e anH
How well do we know Jesus? Even His disciple Thomas who was
with him did not really know Jesus and the way to God. Jesus says,
if we knew Him well, we will also know His Father in heaven. We can
know Jesus and His Father in heaven well, when we study the Bible.
Knowing Him alone will not be of benefit to us. We need to trust,
we need to believe as well as to accept Jesus as our Lord and
Savior. This is what Jesus means when he says, "Trust in God, Trust
also in me."
The following questions may help you in your reflection.
1. How deep is my trust and belief in
Jesus?
2. Is He my Lord and Savior?
3. Do those around me see Jesus in my
lifestyle?
