Week No. 1 in Advent 2005
Love for one another.
God
created man in his own image. God had fellowship with him.
He gave Adam work - to tend the garden.
When God found Adam was lonely, he created Eve from his rib bone to
be his companion. Both male and female created
different in temperament, to complement each other, not to compete
with each other but to be in fellowship with each other.
Thus a human being is a creature of relationships with God
and with his fellowmen. John
3:16
tells of God’s love for us, his creation.
God gave the Ten
Commandments as a basis for the conduct of relationships between God
and us, and between us. The prayer which Jesus
taught also emphasizes the desire of men for the role of God in
their lives. We express our desire that His name
be holy, His kingdom to come, His will be done on earth as it is in
heaven, that we be forgiven by God for our sins
as we forgive others who sin against us.
Today, as a Christian,
I have to see within myself how obedient I have been to the commands
of Jesus, God’s Son, who has declared God’s will for me to follow.
Jesus has said “A new command I give you. Love one
another. As I have loved you, so must you love
one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples if
you love one another.” (Jn.13:34-35 NIV)
May the Holy Spirit
show us where we are as we reflect on the words of Jesus, and lead
us to a closer relationship with our God and between ourselves.
